Akshar Gyaan

Women teach, women learn β€” a volunteer-led path back to literacy and confidence.

Learning, Again

Akshar Gyaan is a simple effort to bring learning back into the lives of women and adolescent girls.

It is for those we call β€œAkshar Saathi” β€” women who, while fulfilling their family and social responsibilities, had to leave their education behind.

Why It Matters

For many of them, education was not a choice β€” it was something they had to give up.

Through Akshar Gyaan, they get a chance to begin again: to understand basic literacy, and to live with confidence in society.

Akshar Gyaan Center Structure

Leadership One volunteer from the community
Group size 15 to 20 Akshar Saathi per center
Duration A six-month curriculum
Daily time 2 hours every day
Women learning together

How the Centers Work

These centers are conducted in villages, neighborhoods, and cities.

A volunteer is selected from among the participants to run the center. Prachi Foundation supports them through regular training and visits.

The learning approach is learner-centered. Women can openly share their thoughts, feelings, and challenges, and learn in a comfortable and respectful environment.

Current Operational Area

This initiative is currently running in:

  • Block: Kesla
  • District: Narmadapuram
  • Locations: Bardha and Morpani, Madhya Pradesh

Impact on the Ground

Each center has around 20 Akshar Saathi, and sessions are conducted in the evening so that women and adolescent girls can join after completing their daily responsibilities.

These centers are helping those who were once left behind in education to move forward again β€” with hope, confidence, and a willingness to learn.
